W. Frank Carlton
W Frank Carlton (real name, Carlton McRae), is a New Zealand writer, actor and musician, who hails from the capital city of Wellington.
In his self-published first novel, John Valentine, Carlton rebirths some of the very forefathers who existed in Victorian Wellington, craftfully stitching together a script which is both fact and fiction.
A nostalgic and often satirical trip through early Wellington ensues, as the mystery/thriller unfolds into a witch hunt, to locate the much maligned protagonist.
Carlton has also recently released Reared in Captivity, a collection of poetry and song lyrics, a number of poems having been reproduced in other New Zealand literary magazines and journals.
Carlton worked for fifteen years in the film industry in Wellington, during the golden age of ‘Wellywood’, under the directorship of Peter Jackson (King Kong, The Hobbit), James Cameron (Avatar), Jay Russell (The Water Horse), Christian Rivers (Mortal Engines) and Luc Besson (Valerian & the City of a Thousand Planets).
He also appeared in many TVNZ drama productions, student and film commission shorts and TVC’s, as an actor, extra, double, stand in and MoCap character.
He is currently writing a memoir about his time on set, which also connects a musical act he was a part of and the winding up of ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy in Los Angeles.
Carlton’s YouTube Channel contains many of his songs, plus his acting showreel.
